When conventional cleaning reaches its limits

Vessels in pharmaceutical production range from small mobile tanks to large IBCs, reactors and fermenters. Conventional approaches are often limited to manual cleaning or standalone CIP skids. These methods can be resource intensive, difficult to standardize and challenging to validate.

Manual operations expose operators to detergents and hot fluids, while bulky vessels require complex handling. Separate systems for parts and mobile vessels increase footprint and capital cost. At the same time, GMP expectations require repeatable and documented cleaning performance.

Automated solutions for each use case

SteelcoBelimed provides automated vessel cleaning solutions integrated into GMP-controlled washer platforms. Depending on the vessel type and facility layout, three approaches can be implemented.

Automated vessel cleaning (CIP or COP)

Vessels and drums can be cleaned either in place or in a dedicated cleaning room using fully automated cycles. Instead of manual washing of bulky equipment, the entire vessel cleaning process is automated with controlled detergent dosing, temperature and pressure, improving coverage, consistency and operator safety.

Vessel docked to the washer (COP)

Closed vessels can be docked externally to a parts washer in a closed-circuit configuration. A spray device adapted to the application is inserted into the vessel while wash, rinse and drying phases are executed automatically. The same washer can therefore process both production parts and mobile vessels, avoiding duplicate systems.

Vessel inside the washer (CIP)

Large vessels such as IBCs can be cleaned entirely inside the chamber, with spray devices addressing both internal and external surfaces. Automated valve opening or lid removal allows fully controlled processing, including drying. For high-potent applications, containment solutions can be integrated, and transport or handling can be automated for heavy vessels.

Operational efficiency and easier validation

Automating vessel cleaning improves repeatability, process control and documentation compared with manual methods. Cleaning performance becomes measurable and easier to validate, while operator exposure and manual handling are reduced.
